Careers & Options

At Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, we are passionate about ensuring we provide our students with as much careers guidance as possible to enable them to make excellent decisions for bright futures.

career paths

In Form Time, students complete a range of careers-focused learning activities throughout Years 7-11 to help them to make excellent choices.

Careers Fairs, Parents’ Information Evenings and student visits to our local colleges and universities ensure students are fully informed about their future pathways. It is this support that has helped us achieve a 0% NEET figure for the last three years, meaning every year 11 students who has left Cliff Park Ormiston Academy has found employment, training opportunities or gone on to study at college.

Year 8 Work Shadowing and Year 10 Work Experience give students the opportunity to sample life within a professional, working environment, whilst our work with outside providers, such as ‘Human Utopia’, develops students’ learning skills and sharpens their team work. Our Banham Zoo trip explores many jobs involved in a successful zoo setting and is an introduction into the world of work.

On the website, U-Explore, students have access to a local, online advisor called a ‘Careers Partner’. Students are able to email this contact regarding anything related to their future plans, including career choices and college applications.

Year 10 Work Experience 2018

Your son/daughter will be taking part in a one-week work experience during the week beginning 9th July 2018. We believe that work experience is an important part of our students’ development. Not only does it give students an insight into the world of work, their placements may also help them focus upon specific career paths and potential routes to them.

As with previous years, work experience placements are organised directly by students and their families. Health and safety checks are carried out by a company called NWES.

We strongly advise students to find their work experience placement as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment. Many schools in the local area tend to have work experience around the same time.

In order for all Health and Safety checks to be carried out, Parent Consent Forms and Self-Generated Placement Forms must be returned to Mrs Carroll by Friday 2nd March 2018. Failure to return forms by this date may result in your son/daughter’s work experience placement being rejected.

We look forward to receiving your completed forms and to a successful work experience in 2018.

Year 8 Options 2018

At Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, we work really hard to deliver an exceptional experience, enabling all to reach their full potential.

It is very important to us, therefore, that our curriculum delivers a rich and varied range of opportunities, thus producing successful students ready for the challenges of life in the 21st century. By combining the hallmarks of a traditional secondary education with a progressive vocational curriculum, relevant to contemporary life and future employment, we have become one of the leading secondary academies in the country for exam results and progression.

Selecting options is an important part of the process. It is your opportunity to explore your interests, prepare for your future and to begin further studies that will flourish into success. It is essential, therefore, to consider carefully the option subjects you choose. Make the choice based on your interests, what you want your future to look like and, above all, what you enjoy.

On Thursday, 8th February, we will be holding an Option Evening for you and your parents/guardians to attend. This presentation will outline the options process and give an overview of the subject available.

Option forms will be available to download from this page. All completed forms should be returned to Mrs Carroll by Friday, 9th March.

Insight into Industry Meetings for Students

At Cliff Park, we are proud of the fact that all our students go on to college or training once they have left us, resulting in a NEET figure (not in education, employment or training) of 0%.

We are committed to providing students with information and guidance that helps inform students’ future career choices.

As part of this, we have developed a partnership with individuals working in a diverse selection of industries to create ‘Insight into Industry’ sessions.

Each session is an opportunity for students in Years 9-11 to meet an individual who is working in an industry area that they are interested in. They will be able to find out about what they get up to on a daily basis, as well as the educational route they took into this industry area.

These sessions:

  • Take place during Break Time in the Library
  • Are only open to students who have a genuine interest in this area
  • Have a maximum of 12 places available for each session.
