Religious Education

In religious studies the curriculum has been sequenced to support the building of foundation knowledge. The aim is to teach students debate, opinion and application skills early in KS3 so these can continue to be embedded and mastered. The curriculum is also chronological with religions being taught in order so pupils can understand effectively.

Knowledge is developed through enquiry and building up to comparison and evaluation questions. Included within the curriculum is retrieval tasks based on prior learning and foundation knowledge, regular formative and summative assessments are used to ensure that pupils have a sound foundation knowledge, this also ensures that gaps in skills and knowledge are being developed and improved regularly.

Religious Studies students are expected to write in full sentences and encouraged to extend written answers with regular opportunities for extended writing to apply key knowledge and beliefs. Subject specific terminology is introduced and recapped regularly throughout each topic and across the curriculum.
