Open Evening For Entry To Year 7 in September 2018 – Thursday 5th October 2017, 6.00pm to 8.30pm
The Governors, Principal, staff and students warmly welcome parents, guardians and prospective Year 6 students to our Open Evening on Thursday 5th October 2017. You will have the opportunity to meet our staff, to view our state-of-the-art facilities and to learn about our exciting new build plans. Our amazing young people will also be on hand to show you around their academy, to showcase their work and to share some of their experiences of attending Cliff Park Ormiston Academy with you. Finally, the Principal, Ms Tamsin Poulter, will make a presentation to parents and prospective students at 6.15pm and 7.15pm in the Main Hall.
Based in Gorleston, in the heart of Great Yarmouth, Cliff Park Ormiston Academy is a vibrant and happy place. Our students are a fantastic group of young people, supported by a wonderful team of staff who are committed to ensuring continuous improvement in a positive “can do” culture, ensuring that students have every opportunity to achieve their potential. This mix creates an academy that is a pleasure to both work and learn in. We are incredibly proud that many of our students succeed in gaining impressively high numbers of GCSE passes, often at the highest grades, with our examination results overall consistently placing us in the top 25% of secondary schools nationally.
Judged by Ofsted in September 2016 as a “Good provider” with some “exceptional” features, Cliff Park Ormiston Academy has a highly aspirational ethos, based on our core values of “Discover”, “Create”, “Thrive” and “Achieve”. These are the names of our four academy “communities” and are the key traits that we champion our young people to embrace as life-long learners and adults. Through our community system, we have also developed strong pastoral care, encouraging friendship, healthy competition and a sense of belonging. We firmly believe in upholding the time honoured ideals of courtesy and self-discipline, actively engendering a culture of mutual respect and self-belief which is key to success in life after school.
Our lessons are led and supported by highly trained professionals with a real passion for enabling all students to reach their full potential. The lower school curriculum, in Year 7 and Year 8, is designed to introduce students to a range of subjects, encouraging independent learning and critical thinking in preparation for GCSE. Students join the Upper School in Year 9, where they begin studying their chosen subjects. By combining the hallmarks of a traditional secondary education with a progressive and innovative vocational curriculum, relevant to contemporary life and future employment, we provide an excellent quality provision for young people in the local area.
Learning does not begin and end at the academy gates, however. The University of East Anglia, Great Yarmouth College, Access to Music and Nexus Engineering are just some of the organisations that work with us as strategic partners, providing our students with fantastic opportunities to raise their aspirations and broaden their horizons. Indeed, we strive to ensure that there is something special for everyone at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, offering an outstanding range of extra-curricular and enrichment choices. Our after-hours facilities include a floodlit astro-turf pitch, tennis courts, a state-of-the-art sports hall, a dance and drama studio and a music suite. Whether a student directs a play, captains a sports team, plays a musical instrument or sits on our active “student voice”, there are countless opportunities to acquire life-long skills, such as leadership, team work and initiative-taking. Joining Cliff Park not only means achieving highly academically, but is also about making new friends and having fun along the way.
As part of the Ormiston Academies Trust family, we are wholeheartedly committed to serving our community and have an ambitious goal to become a ‘world class’ academy, based on the highest expectations of academic achievement and personal development. We genuinely believe that all young people have the potential to succeed and actively support a strong home-academy partnership. Whatever the abilities, talents and needs of your child, together we can create an inclusive academy, where they will feel safe and secure, enjoy and achieve.
We are incredibly proud of our academy; the achievements of our amazing students, our excellent staff and our facilities. This is a great time to come and study at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy and we would encourage you to visit to explore the boundless opportunities on offer; the future is filled with possibilities and you will be afforded a warm welcome!
