Year 7 & 8 pupils follow a varied and enjoyable programme, including gymnastics, dance, athletics, cricket, rounders, tennis, table tennis, football, netball, rugby, handball, climbing, trampolining and fitness Pupils receive 4 lessons a fortnight; each lesson is 1 hour.
Year 9 / 10 / 11 pupils follow either a GCSE PE or BTEC programme based on prior attainment. Pupils are able to develop their knowledge, understanding and application in a variety of activities in greater detail. Pupil’s follow theory aspects relating to healthy, active lifestyles and effects on the body, which support the practical nature of both GCSE and BTEC courses. In addition to practical performance pupils are given coaching and refereeing experience and can be assessed in these areas as part of their final practical exams.
When selecting options in year 9, in addition to the above named courses, pupils have the opportunity to choose to follow GCSE Dance.
We pride ourselves on high quality PE at Cliff Park High School. The department consists of 6 specialist teachers, outside club and county coaches and other eager and talented members of staff. We are an extremely committed and enthusiastic team and take great pride in the success and achievements of our department.
We have an extra curricular club for numerous sports: dance, football, basketball, climbing, rugby, netball, table tennis, cricket, rounders, active club, fitness, trampolining, athletics and gymnastics (sports acro). Club programmes run at different levels where non-competitive and competitive activities occur. Clubs run at lunchtimes, before and after school. Active club is a club where pupils can choose from a variety of activities during the after school session.
Getting involved is the best way to enjoy sport, meet new people and make new friends. Pupils who enjoy their PE lessons go on to excel in school clubs and teams. Competition is strong and matches are played at local, county and National level.
