Students at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy sign up to be Kindness Ambassadors
Students at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy in Gorleston-on-sea, an academy sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), are working together to spread kindness throughout their community.
As part of an initiative from Zoe Cameron, the academy’s Vice Principal, Cliff Park recently held a ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ assembly where 36 students volunteered to be ‘Kindness Ambassadors’.
A ‘Kindness Ambassador’ is an initiative set up by Life Vest Inside, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering people to engage in acts of love and kindness. It involves the students taking an active role in implementing kindness into their lives and a dedication to improving the world around them.
As part of the initiative, Cliff Park’s Kindness Ambassador students will read to children in the Children’s Ward at the James Paget Hospital in Gorleston. James Paget Hospital is a university hospital which provides care to a population of 230,000 residents across Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney, as well as to the many visitors who come to this part of East Anglia.
Every week, three students will attend the hospital on a Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon on a rota basis. The first 3 students to go were Jemima Fuller-Homewood, Gabe Oyawa, and Daisy Lines.
The students have been to a Kindness Ambassador training session and, as their role as Ambassadors develops, they are going to look at peer mentoring and supporting other students.
With plans to find more ways to spread kindness, the students have all signed up to the Life Vest Inside website, which means they receive a ‘Random Act of Kindness’ idea, every Monday.
Community opportunities such as this are encouraged and supported by OAT across all their schools through OAT’s Enrichment Charter, a policy which is designed to inspire young people to develop their skills, talents and character through a wide range of community activities.
Tamsin Poulter, Principal at Cliff Park Ormiston Academy, said:
“I’m so proud of our new cohort of Kindness Ambassadors at Cliff Park who are going out of their way to improve peoples’ lives in our community.
“Supported by OAT’s Enrichment Charter, we encourage all of our students to put themselves out there and try new things, engaging with a range of positive initiatives in our local community.”
